Magazine Covers: Kevin Durant x GQ, Talks Failed EngagementAndMVPSpeech Becoming A Meme

Oklahoma City Thunder super star Kevin Durant lands the cover of GQ magazine. In the issue the NBA's reigning MVP's growth from a boy to a man is evident and he opens up about his engagement to WNBA star Monica Wright and how he hates that people turned his MVP tag line into a joke.

You can say Durant and Wright lived out the Love & Basketball script to a t', from being high school sweethearts to both becoming stars in the NBA & WNBA. The two got engaged in July of 2013 and when the relationship fizzled it caught many by surprise. Some blamed the split on Monica's own success over shadowing (2x WNBA Championship) his but Durant tells why he ended the relationship:

“I had a fiancĂ©e, but… I really didn’t know how to, like, love her, you know what I’m saying? We just went our separate ways. We was just hanging out, chilling. And I felt the energy. I felt, I need to do this right now. And I just did it. I was like… We’re engaged right now? We’re about to get married? So I was just like, cool! I love this girl. But I didn’t love her the right way.”

After winning the NBA's MVP award, Durant delivered on of the most memorable speeches ever. To close out his speech he told his mom she was "The Real MVP", and it quickly caught fire, then turned into memes all over social media and Durant hates it.

"I was like, man, that was a real emotional moment for me, and you making a joke about it! Like: Damn. Y'all don't really believe in shit. You don't have no morals or nothing. You don't care about nothing but just making fun. I was serious as hell saying that, you know what I'm saying?"
