Denzel Washington has been added to the list of actors and actresses being targeted by Sony executives through leaked racist emails.
After the release of The Equalizer which starred Washington as the lead, Sony executives sent out emails advising that Denzel Washington shouldn't receive leading roles in films that are released internationally because he is a black actor.
The producer who sent out the emails name was removed but his take on why Denzel shouldn't have been cast as a lead role was explained.
'Casting him is saying we’re ok with a double if the picture works.'
With the use of a baseball term "double" he believes they would not be able to hit a “home run” with two-time Oscar winner Denzel Washington as the leading actor.
The fact that these emails were written after the release of the film is what's mind boggling. 'Washington’s The Equalizer did more than well after it grossed $191 million at theaters worldwide, with 47% of the ticket sales coming from outside of the United States, that they said he wasn't marketable too.
